Thank you Cat! I hope a lot of people are seeing this. I guess this is what we get for such a low voter turnout. My gosh, we must work to remedy that before the next election. Some of this idiotic behavior does seem to have riled some people up who didn’t really understand what voting for these people would bring.
The first attack against non-resident property owners is clarified in your first highlighted section of this letter. If the bill passes, resident property owners would receive a refund, but part timers like me would not. As I've said elsewhere, I'm proud to be a part of the Pinedale community. Paying our share for community services is a thing we are glad to do, even though we don't get to vote on local matters. We support many businesses in the area too. Why shouldn't surplus tax dollars, our dollars, be returned to us as well? But there are worse things in that bill. Let me say that a similar bill passed in Colorado several years ago called the Tabor Amendment. Instead of excess funds being invested in the community or saved for the tougher times that lie ahead, we get tax refunds. They are not pro rated so they are also harbingers of inequality. Funding for much needed improvements is curtailed. Our transit (Lite Rail) system has become a disgrace, homelessness and drug use are at very high levels, and law enforcement is harnessed below needful levels. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't let your representatives bully you into this.
